    About Us

The Historic Saugeen Metis community are the descendants of the historic Metis who came to the Lake Huron shoreline in the early 1800s. The community is organized as a not-for-profit organization that registers and serves the communities needs. The Lands and Resources Office is located at 204 High Street, Southampton, Ontario, and is involved in lands and resources issues, including environmental assessments of projects within the HSM traditional territory that may or may not impact their Metis rights and interests as asserted under Section 35(1), Constitution Act (1982).
The HSM community operates the HSM Interpretive Learning Centre, a storefront, at 206 High Street, Southampton, Ontario, open to the public, as an outreach to the community and visitors. It advances a greater understanding of our local Lake Huron Metis culture and is committed to engage and excite visitors about the traditional Metis in the area since the early 1800s. All are welcomed.
